Retail App - BUDNI

With the BUDNI app the beginning for the brands digital transformation was set. It offers access to its completely digitalized product range including realtime availability, lets users easily create their smart shopping list, collect bonus points and displays personalized product recommendations based on their shopping behavior.

Impact

The BUDNI app scores a 4.6 rating in the App Store with 360K downloads in its local market. Since the launch of the app BUDNI was able to significantly increase the average amount spend in store. Analysis showed that products added to users’ virtual shopping lists were very likely to be purchased, highlighting a key driver of engagement and revenue.

The Challenge

Hamburg’s retailer BUDNI wants to push its drive-to-store strategy. An app for iOS and android should mark the beginning for the digital transformation of the brand. So how can a digital solution encourage customers to come to the BUDNI store and increase the value of their average shopping cart?

Drive-to-Store Strategy

The goal was to create an attractive and seamless shopping experience with an app which supports users throughout their journey with helpful features, simplifying and enhancing every step of the shopping journey.

Research & User Interviews

I started with extensive research on the brand BUDNI and conducted interviews with current customers as well as other target group audiences to get a better understanding of their needs and struggles when shopping.

Key Take-Aways

  1. With 1,2 million users BUDNI has the most successful
    loyalty card in Germany.

  2. The target group wants to shop effectively and don’t
    spend too much time in the store.

  3. BUDNI customers are very loyal and have a strong
    connection to its heritage Hamburg.

By combining a smart shopping list, personalized offers for every user, extended product information and their realtime availability in 180 stores with a holistic digitalized loyalty program, the app is a true allrounder for every BUDNI customer.
